Success is a marathon, not a sprint. The word success is omnipresent in our lives, whether we want it or not. There is the talk of sports, box office, business, electoral, vital and many other successes. It is difficult to escape the influence that that word has on each one of us. It is impossible for me to define what success is since I believe that everything depends on the expectation of each one and our value system.
The process towards a marathon is long just as for an entrepreneur to achieve the sustainability of their business. Each process is different; you define a plan with the main objective that is to cross the goal. Then come to the more specific objectives that each runner defines, they can be: complete it in a certain time, improve your previous marks, finish without injuries, maintain a certain heart rate or a certain pace the kilometer.
As part of the action plan, there is the training calendar just as an entrepreneur must develop his calendar with the program to follow, both with a clear timeline from the moment you make the decision to do a marathon or launch your business until the day the event occurs and you cross the finish line. Identify the key factors of success, discipline, perseverance, courage, commitment, food, functional work, etc. Define a budget with all the necessary resources, eg. The event requires leaving the country or moving to another city, you need a hotel, pay the coach, nutrition, clothing, and physical therapy. In the execution of the plan, unforeseen events arise that lead you to adjust the initial plan.
One example, injuries, if you had set a goal to finish the marathon at a certain time, maybe now the goal is to finish it without injuries, the specific objective changed but not the main one. In the same way, for an entrepreneur, these events are constant; adjusting the original plan is almost ability if you want to achieve the main objective. What I do have clear, define success as you define it, is that it has to do with achieving those goals that you have marked, whether these create a great business or lead a relaxed existence. You feel that you have succeeded when you get it. And maybe, if you have known how to put your goals into something that really impassions you, follow the path to where it takes you; it will be a success for you.
In most cases, those people that we see triumphant in any aspect of their life have made a career in the background. They have invested their 10,000 hours of practice. Success is not a sprint; it is a marathon, sometimes weekly, sometimes daily. It is training in perseverance and perseverance, skills often poorly valued, even considered “boring people.” It is the art of advancing step by step. It is still there in the hardest moments when it seems that the goal is out of your hands. And not only is it a matter of ego, since then it becomes ambition. You must also put part of your soul, put your emotions into play and flow. Perhaps success is the art of living consciously and at the same time flowing, allowing things to happen, without clinging and at the same time without rejecting them.
