Why college is not for everyone. It’s really the highest level of misconception to think that every child must go to college. This has become the dream of virtually every parent that “My kids got to go to college”.
But have you ever think if this is the best line of action to take, or do you think forcing your kids to attend college will make them fulfill their dreams and become successful in life? This has become the current trend of almost every parent, and this shall be addressed briefly in this article.
Why college?
Most parents choose to send their kids to college for one out of the following three reasons
- We attended college.
- We couldn’t attend college, so our kids must.
- Our kids must attend college to have a better life
For our parents to fulfill their long-term belief about college, scrimp themselves to save tuitions for their kids or most time, go into debt to pay their tuition bills which in most cases results into foolishness, pure and simply crazy.
TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT, COLLEGE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE.
I have come to understand that we spend the most precious moment of our lives attending to college issues where the so-called school dropouts and those that didn’t even attend the four walls of a classroom are making success in their line of business and professions.
We spend time, money, emotions, thought, and most of our reserved energy in choosing the best education either for our kids or ourselves and end up overlooking and neglecting the importance of choosing the best that work for us. It may be a trade, business, idea, talent and skills and lots of them on the list. Do you believe this whole process of educational lifestyle …graduate from high school, then go to college, and get a degree, get a good job, work for donkey years, and then retire from work and face the reality of life…can make you successful in life? Anyways, I don’t’ know much about your belief, but for many people out there, it’s not working. These are the two reasons why:
- There are millions of unemployed graduates on the street looking for job opportunities, and there are over 20 millions of fresh graduates coming into the workforce again when there is no adequate provision for their needs and careers. Then how can you say that going to college has helped your life? Since there is no plan from the government to give you any reasonable job opportunity, so in the real sense, you are expected to finish from college and join the overcrowded unemployed graduates you see in almost every street walking around like a lost sheep. So what makes you think that getting a degree from school will get the right job? Everyone’s eyes have opened, and we don’t believe that anymore.
- There is no more hope in going to college and getting a degree.
Most people are pushed to live their lives following someone else’s standard. What made you believe that because “going to college” worked for some, it will also work for you? I’m damn sorry for breaking this to you, but I can assure you that no college, no degree, and no promising job is ever going to make you satisfied and successful in life if it isn’t something you were born to do.
Just a practical example, my first son never went to college and yet, he is a successful entrepreneur with four functioning and successful businesses in his name, and my second son is a first-class fire science degree holder, and never did anything tangible with it.
The Wolfgang Puck owner stopped going to school at the early age of 14, and now, he’s successful. Walt Disney is also a dropout at the early age of 16, and there are other several successful business moguls in the society today that never attended the four wall of a classroom, yet, they are pretty successful in their line of business.
I’m not saying that going to school is a wrong idea because I so much believe that it is also important you go to school if it’s perfect for you, but has nothing to do with whether you’re going to become successful in life or not. There are several lists of people that have proven that for a very long time.
So, do I really mean that college is good? Yes, absolutely for some people, but college is not for everyone.
Also, college doesn’t teach us the necessary things that can sustain a business through the difficult times and ebbs of the economy but tells us to repeat the same thing because it’s always been done that way. It tells us that we should learn a systematic way to success and stick to the same way without any meaningful evidence….oh no, it’s backward.
IN CONCLUSION
It is not about going to college or not that makes you a successful person in life, it’s really about “YOU.” It’s about knowing yourself and what exactly you want in life, and the best way to make it happen. Without having this understanding, you’ll only be chasing the dream until you die.
