Successful endeavors cannot be built on procrastination. Every night you lock the doors. You never leave your keys inside the vehicle. Why? Because there are thieves on a quest to take advantage of unsuspecting victims. Theft costs Americans billions a year. Yet, there’s another thief that few bring to light about. It is called procrastination.
Procrastination is a thief. Procrastination is subtle in its attack.
It is stealing your quality of time, life, money, relationships, and success. Even more than any human thief. The reasons we procrastinate come from a combination of perfectionism, the fear of failure, and the fear of success. Some entrepreneurs with brilliant ideas are letting procrastination rob success away as he/she puts off utilizing the idea.
Time, money, success, relationships, and quality of life are all vital. Watch it! Procrastination can rob you without an afterthought. Don’t become a victim. Fight back.
It is normal to want to put forth our best effort in an endeavor. There is also a susceptibility to procrastinate when we are not getting instant results from our creditable efforts. There may then be a susceptibility to put off engaging certain tasks relating to reaching our goals since the preceding efforts are yet to fare well.
However, the fear of failure can cause us to stall and set-up your own roadblocks. It may convince you to put off for a more desirable opportunity or that you don’t literally have the time or resource to get started. The meat and potatoes are that it tries its best to outdo you from ever getting started. This is perfectionism. This is a difficult mental barrier to overcome. But if you do get started, procrastination doesn’t go quietly away into the night.
But the key to getting the better of perfectionism is with progression. Rather than focusing on perfecting upon an endeavor, focus on meeting a sequence of smaller goals that get you to success at your endeavor. That will accord you to move toward to the final goal of being successful. For example, if your goal is to run five miles, focus on running one mile first.
Another reason to procrastinate is that we were never actually interested in the endeavor from the get-go. This requires asking yourself some serious questions. Do you actually want the thing you say you want or do you like the idea of having it? In other words, take for instance people who say their New Year’s resolution is to lose 10lbs of weight. If they are always finding something to do that distracts them from losing 10lbs of weight. it is possible that they never actually wanted to lose 10lbs. They just liked the idea of losing it. Research your motives. Some endeavors that bring about success require work. If you are not putting the time into it, ask yourself is it something that you actually want to do or if you just like the idea of succeeding at your endeavor.
Overwhelm is also another rationale why we procrastinate. The knowledge required to succeed at a particular endeavor is actually not difficult, but it is not always easy to implement. The sheer amount of knowledge can overwhelm somebody who is not familiar with the game. The way to take action against overwhelming is akin to the approach presented on how to take action against perfectionism. Focus on progressing through smaller goals that take you toward a greater goal.
Finally, think about your end goal. Keep working your plan. Refuse to procrastinate. Above all, refuse to give up. Only consistent right actions bring positive results in all endeavors.
There are thousands abound thousands of endeavors that offers the opportunity for financial freedom, but those endeavors do require work and effort to succeed at a good portion of them. What would it mean to you if you accomplished all of your goals? What would happen if you did not accomplish your goal? Take some time to define what you want and deal with your goals one at a time.
